Professor Edward Newman noted that the norms, rules and institutions of the post-WWII international order have been in ‘transition’ for years. He then explained the nature of the ‘transition’ going beyond ideas of material power to include the social and ontological aspects of international relations. Several speakers including Ambassador Hans Klemm, Mr. Ken Inoue, Professor Yuichi Kubota, Ms. Motoko Mizuno and Ms. Julia Yamamaguchi commented on Newman`s presentation and expressed their views on their implications of Professor Newman`s diagnosis of what are happening in the contemporary world.
