The International Day of Peace is observed throughout the world on 21 September. The United National General Assembly marks the day by promoting ideals of peace among nations and people by observing non-violence and ceasefire for 24 hours. This year's theme is “End racism. Build peace.” The International Day of Peace is observed in Tokyo on 21 September and the Peace Bell Ceremony was held at Meiji Jingu Shrine and at UN Headquarters in New York earlier on 16 September.
