On April 28, 2025, a special lecture entitled “International Peace and Art” was delivered by Dr. Sukehiro Hasegawa, Director of the Kyoto Peacebuilding Center, as part of the “Geijutu Rikkoku (Pursuit of Peace through Arts)” course at Kyoto University of the Arts. At the beginning of the session, Professor Hiroki Nakayama, the course instructor, provided an overview of the Kyoto Peacebuilding Center, introducing its founding purpose and principal activities. This was followed by a lecture in which Director Hasegawa, drawing upon his extensive experience at the United Nations, spoke about the significance of peacebuilding in the international community and the role Japan is expected to play. He also provided a detailed explanation of the Center’s ongoing projects and their societal significance. The lecture offered students a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the university’s founding philosophy—Geijutu Rikkoku —through real-world examples of international peace efforts. Approximately 480 students attended the session, making it a meaningful occasion to explore the connection between the arts, peacebuilding, and international cooperation.
