Despite rapid advances in science and technology, conflicts persist worldwide. Why is the current United Nations unable to effectively prevent such tragedies? Mr. Hasegawa explained that the fundamental cause lied in “the very structure of the current United Nations” and the “conferral of sovereignty upon nation-states” based on the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia. The prevailing reality appeared to the public that a “United Nations by the States (We the States)” model, easily swayed by the agendas of a few major powers. This is what renders human-centered international cooperation dysfunctional. If this continues, humanity will be unable to solve the complex challenges it faces. (20/12/2025)
